F.A.Q.

IF YOU ASK A QUESTION THAT IS ALREADY ADDRESSED HERE, PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT A REPLY.
There is a lot of info here, so it might be best to utilize the “find” feature of your browser.

Commissioning in general

1| Are you still available for commissions?
- Status of each commission service is listed on their info page at the very top.

2| How much will it cost for a Pro commission of  (insert request)  ?
-  Prices are listed on the service info page. See “commission services” tab to the right, or #5 below.

3| May I have a discount, please? I’m broke as well
- No. To cheapen myself would be to help [further] cheapen the economy of this industry.

4| What type of payments do you accept?
- ONLY Paypal or credit/debit card (through paypal).

5| How do I know which offer is for me? 24hr discount, standard commission, etc.?
- It all comes down to how much control you want. Here is a breakdown of what each entails, beginning with a link to their own info page.

Summary List of all available commission services!

6| What is your permanently banned list (things you will not accept as any commission)?
- shota / lolita
- bestiality/ feral sexualization (which includes: animal genitalia, ‘-taur’ creatures, mythical animals (except faun-like creatures), and etc.)
- scat, urine (basically anything with bodily waste)
- sexualizing “birth” (including pregnancy and laying eggs)
- Anal inflation
- Feral animal head french kissing (I’ll make the feral head into a more humanoid shape by default).
Please, do not try to find any loop holes, or ask me “just to be sure”. It’ll annoy me greatly. Use common sense.

7| Why do you charge extra for Rule 34?

Rule 34 = [insert franchise] Porn (NC-17 rating only)
$15 fee for Sketch commissions : $20 fee for Pro Commissions

-Because there are some franchises out there that I appreciate too much to sexualize (for free). If you don’t see your intended title in the below list, please feel free to ask about.

Rule 34 fee-list (updated periodically):
My Little Ponies – Gears of War – Halo – Sonic the Hedgehog – Dragonball Series – Gargoyles – All DC and Marvel comics main properties

Exempt from Rule 34 fee-list (updated periodically):
Pokemon – digimon

Untouchables- titles I will NEVER “rule 34″, so please do not ask:
pokemon (feral) – digimon (feral) – My little ponies (feral) – Pirates of Dark Water – Simpsons – South Park – Any webcomic series

8| What is your preferred medium? Traditional or Digital?
-Both. For sketch commissions I tend to do traditional (for the postal mail out option). But for Standard commissions, there is a wide array of options for the client to choose from on the online form.

9| How long can I expect a response after sending in a request?
-It depends on the service: For Professional commissions (see it’s info page). For all sketch commissions (except for livestream of course), it can range from a couple of days to a week or so. The absolute most one may have to wait is 1 month, that is only when something urgent is on my plate at the moment. In that rare case, I will post an announcement if I can.

Please do not email me to inquire if I received it or not. I did. A message should appear once you click the submit button on the form. That let’s you know I got it.

10| Do you accept tips/donations?
http://fydbac.wordpress.com/tip/
- Yes, yes I do. I certainly won’t stop you if you want to pay me more.
- PLEASE leave tips through the above link ONLY. Please do not leave a tip with your commission payments.

Pro Commissions

1| May I get a quote on what my proposed project will cost?
- Yes, please feel free to fill out the Standard commission online form, and I will be happy to send you an email price break down for you to decide if you’d like to move forward or not. No; quotes are closed at the moment, so both Pro services only provide flat-rates at the moment.

Sketch Commissions

(24hr sketch, characo sketch, and Stream sketch)

1| How long does it take you to do a single character (no color) sketch?
- From idea to finish; about 15-30 minutes to 1 hour on average.

2| May I request a envelope sketch/ How much do you charge for envelope sketches?
- I do not accept requests, nor do I charge, for envelope sketches. They are done purely for my own satisfaction. Please don’t ever ask for it, or try to make a suggestion. If mentioned at all in your commission submission, I WILL NOT sketch on your envelope.

The best way to get one is to request one of my commissions (standard, 24hr, or custom shoes/hat) and select the option to have it mailed to you. Remember, do not mention my envelop sketches. If you do, you won’t get one.

3| Can I provide a music link in my request? How should I request it?
-Yes and double yes! I love these requests! When requesting a music piece, just provide the characters, and I do the rest. NO further direction is allowed. The whole point of this request is for me to use the music as inspiration for your character. So my complete creative freedom is what drives it.

Artist Copyrights/Re-posting

1| What is your policy on clients reposting the work you do for them?

Please feel free to post any work I do for you as long as you include proper credit: my icon link (if available), or my pen name followed by http://fydbac.daportfolio.com

2| How do you handle rights concerning designs for profitable means: like t-shirts, etc.?
Designs that’ll be used for profit includes the charge for making the design itself, and a renewable contract for the client to hold the reproduction and profit rights for a set amount of time (6 months to 1 yr.); which may range from $1,000 to $2,000. The price for each following renewal depends on the profits made on the previous contract.

If you use my design for profit without signing an explicit contract with me, Legal action will take place on your behalf.

Art Questions

1| What inspires you to do art, and in particular things like your Day-commissions?
- Me. I inspire myself through my fantastical imagination. It’ll murder me if I don’t find a way to let it out.

Money inspired me to offer the Day-sketch deal. Hardest time of my life right now, so it helps me crawl by. The 24hr is also a great exercise, I find myself getting faster and faster with ideas and putting it on paper.

2| What time of the day are you most likely to be inspired to draw?
-Time of consciousness.

3| How did you develop your style?
- I don’t know, just do what I feel is right.

4| And do you ever try to draw in any other style?
-Depends; if you mean, have I ever tried to emulate another style? For work, yes. Company clients have mostly ever asked me to work in some general style: Udon style mostly. But I try not to emulate completely, in hopes of keeping SOME of my moral intact.
Do I try to emulate for my own benefit? No. I’m influenced to try new things from other styles, but I never try to take it for myself. Trying to create something new is more challenging than trying to use what’s already discovered.

5| About how long does it take you to do a drawing, tattoo designs, etc.?
- It depends on the level of detail requested. I count everything from the thought itself, to the finished piece. On average, A lone character, 1hr-5hr. tattoo design, 1hr-5hr. It ALL depends on what exactly is requested.

6| How did you get such a grasp of anatomy?
- still life – people watch – anatomy books (see #8 below). Nothing I say will be much different than what most others would probably say. I’m doing it enough that it’s becoming an instinct: How long that takes, depends on the person.

7| Do you have any other tips for an up and coming artist?
- Maybe, but I’ll need a specific question. But in General? Sure, I have a three in fact:
Know your artistic/creative worth: Don’t cheapen yourself, because it’s unprofessional and damages the industry. Same goes for over pricing yourself as well.

Stay professional. Even if the client/stranger is a jackass, (or worse, a moron), STAY PROFESSIONAL. ESPECIALLY if they deserve to be cursed the fuck out. Not just because it might come back to bite you in the ass later if you’re not, but it shows a great deal about one’s character to be able to tell someone off in a polite and respectful manner (Hell, it’s MORE satisfying than that way.).

And thirdly, don’t be an artist if you’re not going to nut the fuck up. If you think it’s going to be fun 24/7, or that “I’ll make it, as long as I draw everyday/ believe in myself”, then you should either gain a hell of a lot more experience, or quit it right the fuck now. There are two general kinds of artist: either you’re a lucky bastard (right place right time), or you’re a poor bastard who crawls through the minefield until they become a lucky bastard. MOST are the latter. Talent and skill is only second in what makes one a successful creator, the first is networking (not meaning the fly by connecting, one person a month. I’m talking the PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE and meeting 100 a month and staying up to date with them all.).

“Drawing everyday” ain’t going to do shit without putting yourself out there if you seriously want this as a career. And believing in your work is great, but that too won’t do a damn thing on its own if you don’t MAKE other’s believe in you as well. Believe it or not, it’s others’ belief in you that makes one a success.

8| Are there any books you recommend for Artists?
-Two books I will never be without, no matter how proficient I become with human anatomy:

Human Anatomy for Artists

Artistic Anatomy

Further disclaimers

The following are things that I feel should be shared since they’ve been brought up in one form or another. This is to help make my business here even more smooth, and also to share a little about myself (if any was interested :) ).

-ALL fydbac sites (portfolios and stores) mentioned are places I myself registered. If you see my penname on any site not listed there, then It’s either not me or I was not the one who registered my info there.

-My services are my business, so I treat it as such. Not to say I don’t have a sense of humor or anything, but concerning commissions and the business transaction aspect of them, I’m very serious about it. As in, I appreciate when my policies are followed, and when clients show maturity. Not to say I get angry or have an attitude if it’s not; but it does make our transaction run much smoother :)

-I prefer as little reference as possible. My imagination is very independent, so the less reference given, the better. Unless it’s to show something you actual want to see, it’s unnecessary to show me. I love to create from scratch, so there’s no need to show me something unless it pertains to your actual desires. I like the chance to come up with things on my own, before resorting to a reference (which is why I limit reference links for all sketch commissions).

-Have I mentioned how much I love to work without reference? For individual commissions (not a company gig), I loathe the idea of copying another persons style or pose.

-Try to be direct and to the point as possible, please. I really don’t appreciate indirect direction: “please feel free to design her however you want ☺…but here are some refs I had in mind, just in case.” I truly loathe such contradictory direction. If you want a pose or a design style, just say it, otherwise, please don’t mention it when also saying I have free reign. My professionalism will see it as you giving a direction. Saying I have free reign, yet giving me a direction,(hints, “maybe have..”’s, etc.) is not free reign.

-Please, please try to refrain from referring to your character in first person. My mind works visualy, so whenever someone says “please have him fucking me…” etc. ,mentally, my immediate visual is not an imaginary character. Thankfully, this doesn’t happen often…but when it does….Let’s just say it bothers me enough that I’m actually addressing it publicly.

-Words, verbal or text, are powerful. They can convey a lot about a person in just the manner of which one says or types words together. So please, do not approach me (or anyone) like a child with no manners. None of my clients have done this (thankfully), but sometimes…I get such notes and comments. As mentioned before, I’m running a business, so when approached in a rude and immature manner, I can’t help but not accept the person seriously.

More questions?

I’ll answer anything. So feel free to leave a question either in this post, or better yet, formsprings. If you’d like clarification on any of the answers above, don’t hesitate to ask. I just ask one thing…

PLEASE don’t make me have to repeat myself.

Have a great day! And thank you for taking the time to read through these!

  1. hi, my name is Michael and Could you help me to commission an chinese dragon tattoo design please?. There are some complications. I already have an existing tattoo of a dragon with some background that i don’t like, so if you could design over the old tattoo or fix it and make it better is fine by me. I can send you the pictures of my half sleeve for preferences. Thank you so much for trying to help.
PS: Your tiger climping up the mountain tattoo commission picture is the best i had seen on the web. The tiger looks so alive :-)

    • Hello,
It is possible for you to submit that as a pro commission (please see: “flat-rates” page), but I think it would be best for you to approach your tattoo artist about a cover up. Since they will ultimately be the person to handle the rejuvenation in person, they should be the one to decide what would be the best approach.
Thank you for your consideration nonetheless, I really appreciate it.

  2. Hi Fydbac.

I have some doubts about Rule 34, including a couple of series that I would like to commission sketches…

To begin the topic: how does it work on the references? Should I have to post the better reference pics regarding the commission in hand on the online form or I don’t need to do so?
    [center]
First, Pokémon. Would the $15 fee be applied if I ask for a single-character, lines only pic?

Second, Slightly Damned. It’s a webcomic. The $15 fee would be applied if I ask for a single or double-character, lines only pic?

    Thanks.

    • Hello,

      Great questions.

1- Reference for franchises, yes, please provide references as usual.
2- Pokemon doesn’t require the fee, as I’m not a fan of the series, and don’t have any sentiments on it. You just reminded me that I need to add that mention on my FAQ; I’m sorry it wasn’t there before.
3- Concerning webcomics…I see them as belonging to an individual. So if NC-17, I would need you to get permission from the creator, as you would any other character that isn’t yours. PG or R- rating pics are okay without permission though (I would consider those fan-art).

      Hope that helps!

      Best,

      Jainai Jeffries

  3. 2 small questions that I didn’t see in the FAQ…of course I highly doubt these are frequent questions for anyone.

    1) I tend to be paranoid and don’t like to buy online but I have a friend who lets me use his paypal account. Do you have any problems with me buying through someone else? Or should I suck it up and make my own paypal account if I really want a commission with you?

    2) Do you accept tips? Every now and again, if I can afford to, I like to add a few extra dollars onto the commission rate. I figure it’s better in someone’ s pocket instead of a Dr. Pepper for myself. xD

    • 1) I will never accept payment from a fund holder that does not belong to the client. I consider it a security risk on several fronts. You will need a paypal account/ or debit card, if you wish to do business with me directly.
      2) Yes I do. I have no problem if someone wishes to pay more. I’ll be posting a tip page soon, as this topic has come up often enough.

Thank you for taking the time to write.
